I have a Windows Phone 8 Nokia Lumia 520 and a Microsoft account, too, but I don't know how to install WhatsApp. While I try to install the app, it asks for my Family account. Now what can I do?
I want to install the WhatsApp app on my Windows phone. But whenever I try to install it, it asks for parental permission. How can I install WhatsApp on my Lumia 520?
A Windows My Family account is a feature included on your phone to keep children from downloading apps parents don't want them to use. In most cases the problem of not being able to download WhatsApp is caused by entering incorrect information during the Windows live account setup, especially the date of birth. As a result Microsoft thinks you are a minor, even if you're an adult, and doesn't let you install WhatsApp on your device.
This is why you are having a problem with Windows My Family. However, many users create a fake parental account and use it to download apps. This can create problems though, because every time you want to install an app, you will need to use the parental account to approve it.
If you have an Xbox, you will have even more problems, so this method of bypassing the system is not recommended for Xbox users.
In your case, the best solution will be to reset your Nokia Lumia 520, which will let you create a new account. You can also contact Microsoft to fix this problem, but it can take a very long time for them to get back to you. Most people just reset their device rather than wait.
Keep in mind that before hard resetting your phone, you should backup all of your files and contacts. Otherwise you lose them.
In order to Hard Reset your Lumia, follow the steps below:
- 1On your phone start menu, go to 'Settings'.
- 2Scroll down and click on the 'About' option.
- 3In order to proceed, tap on 'Reset your phone'.
- 4Follow the instruction on your phone.
- 5This process will take a few minutes.
Once your phone is reset, turn on your PC and create a Hotmail, Live, or Outlook account. Note that you should use the correct date of birth, making sure your age is more than 18. Once you've created the account register your phone, and sign in to download WhatsApp.
Now you should have no problems with the installation process.
