How to turn off Gmail preview on my Android home screen?

The home screen on my Samsung Galaxy S has started showing preview of my emails when I turn it on. How can I disable that? (Note: this is for Gmail, not text messaging.)

The preview you're referring to is called a Widget. Widgets are meant to make viewing information easier and quicker by providing quick glimpses of applications right on your home screen. To remove a widget, simply hold your finger over the box and, once it is highlighted in red, drag it toward the trash can to remove it.
