How to share broken screen on desktop?

My phone screen just broke and it's currently pitched black except for the back and menu key. How can I solve this?

You do not need the desktop but rather the monitor itself only. Locate the HDMI-in port and connect an HDMI cable to it. Run the other end into an MHL adapter for your smartphone or into the HDMI port of the smartphone. Some smartphones without HDMI outputs require specific MHL adapters, and other phones may not work like that at all (if it is the case, then there is no way to mirror it with a broken screen).

Then, just tap the broken screen to see if it registers touches by looking at the monitor. If you cannot do that, connect a computer mouse to your mini-USB port of the smartphone. You will need a mini-USB-to-USB adapter for the mouse. If you use an MHL adapter, then you may need a hub connected into your smartphone with an extra USB-to-mini-USB adapter for the MHL adapter.
