How to fix receding hairline temple with biotin for men?

I heard that biotin can help stop my receding hairline. How can I use biotin to regrow my hair?

Ad

Biotin is a water soluble B vitamin that is sometimes used to stimulate hair growth. While it does help with hair growth, it is only because it aids the body in metabolizing fats and proteins. This is what all of the other B complex vitamins do too. Biotin does not, however, regrow hair follicles. In fact, there is little supporting scientific evidence to claims that biotin restores lost hair. What biotin does is cause hair to grow thicker and more full.

Of the B vitamins, biotin is considered to be more effective in specifically promoting hair growth, that is why it is lately receiving so much attention in the media. This can be confusing though, because the vast majority of cases where men are experiencing hair loss have nothing do to with biotin deficiency. Many people take biotin supplements, and notice hair growth, yet they still lose hair. In effect, biotin causes them to grow more hair everywhere, but it does not stop their hair loss.

However, the science of treating hair loss is far from exact, and not at all effective for some forms of hair loss. Therefore, if your hair line is receding, there's no reason not to try biotin, which can be had through a combination of dietary products, and store bought supplements. Note that store bought supplements will be named vitamin B7, or sometimes vitamin H.

Dietary Products:

  • Almonds
  • Berries
  • Brewer's Yeast
  • Cabbage
  • Carrots
  • Cauliflower
  • Chicken
  • Cow's Milk
  • Cucumber
  • Eggs
  • Fruits
  • Goat's Milk
  • Halibut
  • Legumes
  • Onion
  • Royal Jelly
  • Salmon
  • Swiss Chard
  • Walnuts

Store Bought Supplements:

  • Standard daily recommendations are 35 mcg for adults.
  • Higher doses for receding hairlines start at 300 mcg
  • Many people who take a biotin supplement take 1,000 mcg to 5,000 mcg per day.
  • Some people take as much as 20,000 mcg to 30,000 mcg, and report no side effects - though this is not recommended, and has not been confirmed to be safe or healthy. In fact, it can cause serious problems with insulin, sugar, and other vitamin deficiencies. We discuss that in more detail at the end of this answer.
  • Some people also report that biotin helps to treat Eczema and Psoriasis.
  • Biotin also helps to treat problems with fingernails.
  • You should always consult with your physician before using any supplements. This is especially true if you are pregnant, breast feeding, or on any medications.

While most people meet their dietary needs for biotin through the foods they eat, if you are concerned that you may have Biotin Deficiency, please check the symptoms below. Any of the symptoms below may indicate biotin deficiency, which is a problem that could be contributing to your hair loss:

  • Depression.
  • Hallucinations.
  • Lethargy.
  • Red, scaly facial rash.
  • Unusual sensations (such as burning or pricking) of your hands or feet.

Note that there are other persons who may have problems with meeting their biotin needs through dietary means. Examples of conditions where complications in biotin absorption are indicated are as follows:

  • Biotinidase deficiency. This is a genetic disorder.
  • Dialysis of the Kidneys.
  • Long term use of antibiotics and some seizure medications.
  • Eating too many egg whites. They have a substance that can deplete biotin.
  • Feeding by IV, when biotin is not included in the feeding regimen.

Keep in mind that biotin in foods is not always readily absorbed by our body. This is why supplements are sometimes better - especially when trying to take considerably larger doses than you would otherwise have through dietary needs.

Most pharmacies and health stores will have biotin supplements. Just make sure to follow all instructions on the product package.

Doses and Dangers: The standard recommended daily allowance when using biotin is about 35 mcg per day. When used for treating hair loss, doctors usually recommend doses from about 10 times this amount, at 300 mcg, to usually not more than 30 times this amount, at 900 mcg. However, many people report results they are please with at doses of 3,000 mcg and up. While biotin has not been shown to cause dangerous effects in low dosages, it is still best to be safe, and at a minimum consult with your physician or doctor.

Large doses of biotin can cause lower levels of vitamin B6 and C, higher levels of blood sugar, skin rashes, and also cause insulin to be released more slowly. These can be dangerous, especially to someone who is diabetic.

There are also other vitamins that, when taken with biotin, such as vitamin B5, can cause the two to cancel each other out. Therefore, it is important to be aware of vitamins that do not interact well with biotin, which in most cases means consulting with a specialist or a doctor well versed in supplements, medicines, and how they interact.

An added precaution is that certain medications are changed when the liver breaks them down. Biotin is one such medication, and can decrease how fast the liver is able to break down other medicines. This can increase the risk of unwanted side effects, and you should check with your health care provider if you are considering taking biotin while on any other medicine. These medicines include, but are by no means limited to:

  • Clozaril - (clozapine)
  • Cognex - (tacrine)
  • Flexeril - (cyclobenzaprine)
  • Haldol - (haloperidol)
  • Inderal - (propranolol)
  • Luvox - (fluvoxamine)
  • Mexitil - (mexiletine)
  • Talwin - (pentazocine)
  • Tofranil - (imipramine)
  • Zomig - (zolmitriptan)
  • Zyflo - (zileuton)
  • Zyprexa - (olanzapine)

As with all supplements, if you experience any side effects, immediately stop using it and consult your doctor.

Is Brewers Yeast effective in treating a receding hair?

Brewer's yeast is not a popular treatment for receding hair. Not too many people can attest to its effectiveness. Also, since it is yeast, it is highly likely that this can even cause further infection to your scalp.

There are other alternatives to treating receding hair other than using brewer's yeast, such as using Aloe Vera gel or applying coconut oil. These are equally easy to prepare at home.
