How to fix and open a Dell Latitude E6500 laptop?

As stated in the great VisiHow article below, black screens of death are normally caused by three things:

  • Windows Security updates
  • Malware
  • Corrupted Graphics drivers

This is an incredibly annoying problem that affects many people. Thankfully, you can use the guide in the great VisiHow article below to fix the issue. Since Windows 7's black screen of death is software-based, you will be able to perform the process described below to fix the issue and use your Dell Latitude E6500 the way it was meant to be used.

However, if your display cannot turn on, it is another issue entirely. Some Latitude E6500 owners have described an issue where the display cuts out, and it won't turn back on. This is often the failure of a graphics card, LCD, or inverter cable. In other words, this is a hardware issue. To see if either your screen or inverter cable is broken, find an external monitor and plug your laptop into it. If you see anything on the external monitor, it means that either your screen or inverter cable is broken. However, if you don't see anything on the external monitor, your graphics card may be broken. Either way, you will need to contact Dell's customer support to schedule a repair since this is a hardware issue. If you're under warranty, this will be covered; if you're not, you'll likely have to pay for repairs. Alternatively, you could also repair the laptop yourself by ordering the necessary parts and installing them yourself. Click this link to learn about the teardown process for the Dell Latitude E6500. To buy parts, search your favorite online retailer for any of the following parts:

Whenever I shutdown my computer/close lid it would go to a black screen that I cannot come back from. When I boot my computer up it goes to a black screen. I can not get into my BIOS or anything. It is like it's stuck in sleep mode. I used a weird method to get it to start up so I know the Laptop monitor is working fine, but whenever I shut down or close lid it goes back to black screen. It was working when I changed my power settings to hibernate instead of sleep. That has recently stopped working. I also factory restored the computer, which appeared to fix it for 2 boot-ups?

OS is Windows 7 64bit, AMD Athlon 64 processor. My computer only boots up normally when I forcefully overheat my computer.

It sounds like the magnet that senses when the laptop lid is shut might be damaged. Remove your battery and see if it helps. You also might need to get the closing of the lid functions checked because this is when your issue occurs. Make sure you have the power saved to Balanced.

My screen keeps going black after a few seconds and I have to keep turning off and on but it lasts only a few seconds. The screen I am using is not the one that came with the monitor and I was wondering if I need to do something to make them compatible. If it takes me a while to answer back its because I have to keep turning my screen off and on to read it?

Go back into your Computer settings under Display. It sound like you need to change your power plan to balanced and turn off any screensavers.

Last night my wife's laptop worked correctly. Today she went to start up and its a black screen. She's good with antivirus, scans, but she lags in backup. The computer doesn't respond to Ctrl+Alt+Del command to bring up the task manager?

We do not see a cursor...just a black screen, Recovery discs don't start up

Pull the battery. Hook the laptop up to an external monitor to see if it is the LCD or video chip/card that is causing the black screen of death. If she installed an update unknowingly while shutting down this also could be the problem and you will have to connect to an external monitor and refresh the Windows Update.

First, remove the screen image and see if that resolves your issue. Your image may be conflicting with the video graphics for whatever reason. Second, see if there are any available updates for your video drivers.

I am working my way through the solutions to the BSOD on my father's computer. I want to know how to fix it?

Hi, and thank you for your offer. I turned on my computer and can only see the black screen, but the cursor still works. It's my father's computer. Funny enough my Mother's computer just had the same problem and I used restore from Safe Mode to fix it. She had just received two updates, one for CClearner and one for Windows KB 3001554. His is more difficult though. Both are Win 7.

Try all of the solutions listed in the article. It is hard to say what caused both PC's to go down like that at the same time unless there is an issue with an application they are both using. That Windows update could possibly been what caused the issue and the solution is to refresh the update.

I want to download webcam driver 1.3.2.919, but do not know where to find it?

Because I think this will solve the problem of getting a blank screen when in hibernation mode, and not being able to get out of hibernation mode.

Go back into settings and also change your power plan. Turn off any screensavers and change the laptop to Never when the lid shuts etc. It is not the webcam that is causing the issue but instead your Power plan and hibernation issue.
