With the Marshmallow 6.0, you will need the Google Account last synced to the device so it is best to use that to open the Pattern lock once you click Forgot Pattern. If you can't remember the Google Account go to Google Accounts Recovery to get the credentials. Without your Google Account even if you hard reset, you will need to install a new Marshmallow OS to the phone before you can use it. It is the Google tighter security measure that makes you have to have the previous Google Account to prevent theft.,

If your Google Account is correct but the phone is refusing it, login to your Google Account on the PC. Go to My Account and then Security. On the Security page, is an option to control 2-Step Verification. Disable this and wait a few minutes. Restart your phone then use the Google Account again.
