How to diagnose Dell Vostro 1440 laptop fan?
It's been a long time, my laptop started shutting down at several times and when I start it again it asks for error checking, a restart setup. Moreover, back side of laptop sometimes is very hot.
Dell Vostro 1440 has a problem with a faulty processor. I have a Dell Inspiron and have a cooling fan running underneath it all the time when I am working for long periods. I also make sure to give the laptop 5 minute "breaks" periodically. I too had to replace the processor to get it to the point where it would not shut down because it would shut down after about 20 minutes. Once a week I take a can of forced air and clear out any dust from my laptop. Even if you are sitting in a completely clean environment, there is still dust particles in the air that are attracted to the laptop.
If you have not had your Dell cleaned, take it to a repair shop like Geek Squad or clean it completely yourself. This means taking the backing off as well as other parts of the case to blow the air can through. Ask them to also diagnose your processor to make sure that is not the ultimate cause. When you get your laptop cleaned, use a cooling pad with 4 fans that runs off USB. This will be beneficial to keeping your laptop cool for longer periods of time.
The way to diagnose your fan is to listen. Do you hear it running at all when the laptop gets warm? If the laptop is ultra quiet and then shuts down, you have a problem with your fan. Even though laptops have fans, it does not keep them cool for long periods of time.
