Change the timeout for wifi hotspot connections on Samsung Galaxy

Edited by Cave Man, Charmed, Eng, Christine dela Cruz and 5 others

I used to use an iPhone, and you could only connect to it while the iPhone's share personal hotspot was on. As with almost everything, the Samsung Galaxy gives you more power and flexibility. In this "how to" you will learn to change the settings to decrease the timeout thereby increasing security and battery life or if you wish you can increase ease of use by allowing the hotspot to remain active longer. You can even turn it on indefinitely if you wish (and you like going to your charging station frequently).

    Now here is the secret
    .
To the left of your home button is an invisible spot you can click anytime on your phone to get a settings menu. The option is hidden in here. Tap the spot to the left of your home button. UPDATE: WITH THE LATEST UPDATE MANY Android PHONES REQUIRE A LONG PRESS ON THE BUTTON TO THE LEFT OF YOUR HOME BUTTON. THE SHORT PRESS NOW BRINGS UP A TASK LIST OF WHAT IS RUNNING ON THE PHONE. SO IF THIS HAPPENS WHEN YOU PRESS THE BUTTON TRY AGAIN BY PRESSING AND HOLDING INSTEAD.

Benefits of Using WiFi Hotspot

Benefits of Using WiFi Hotspot 85891.jpg
  1. 1
You always have readily available WiFi for your other devices
    .
If you are outside and do not have immediate access to WiFi or LAN connection, as long as you have your smartphone, you are guaranteed to have internet access all the time.

  2. 2
You have a secure connection, even when you are in a public place
    .
It is safer to just use your WiFi hotspot for your other devices, as compared to hooking up to public WiFi without any password. The likelihood that your activities will get hacked is very low if you are using hotspot, unless of course that you have leaked out your password.

  3. 3
You are only sharing the connection with yourself
    .
You have all the right to just share the WiFi hotspot connection to yourself for your other device. This means that the likelihood that the connection will slow down because too many people are hooked up is very low. You get to control how many devices are allowed to hook up.

Things to Remember When Setting Up Your WiFi Hotspot

  1. 1
Take good care of your password
    .
If you have no plans whatsoever of sharing your connection with another person, take good care of your password. In most cases, for WiFi hotspot, it is best just to share it with your other device.

  2. 2
    Review your data plan coverage
    .
In some cases, data plans are not equally comprehensive. If there are limitations, you may end up having to pay more in case you exceed that. Therefore, before proceeding to use your WiFi hotspot, make sure you are clear on how your data plan works. If you are going to be surfing on three different devices, that will consume a lot of data, and you may end up getting surprised with a huge bill if you are uncertain.

Directly to the left of the Home button, which is the bottom center button on all Samsung Galaxy S model phones, you will find a 'hidden' button. It is called a hidden button because it does not give any physical indication of an action when it is pressed. This is unlike the 'Home' button, which does give a tactile feel that it has been pressed. This hidden menu button is accessed by just tapping, or pressing, the spot next to the 'Home' button, towards the left of your genuine Samsung Galaxy S model phone.

My device Disconnects from WiFi after every one minute. How can I fix my Problem?

Hi, thanks for your information. I have another problem. I read your Article while I was searching for a solution for my problem. Here is my headache. I have a Smart phone of new brand which was bought from India. I received the Device a month ago. It is Samsung Galaxy J Max and is mini Tablet. My problem is the device disconnects from WiFi after just a minute. The device shows the signal that it is connected to WiFi, but it does not work. Then I disconnect and Reconnect it again in order to work, but it stops while something is in the middle of Downloading. The first day I used it, the device was working properly with WiFi, but later on, this problem emerged. I have tried by Factory Reset, but there was no change. Would you suggest me a solution for my device? Everything works properly except the one I mentioned. I await for your response. Thank you.

We are trying to set a sleep mode (shut down mode) for our hotspot at night. can you help?

We have a Samsung Galaxy J7 and want to set it up with a hotspot for so we can use the internet radio for about 2 hours every night. Is there a way to do this? We cannot find more options in "Settings" that match what the article says. I have tried: We have gone into settings and don't see an option for timers/shut down or sleep mode. I think it was caused by: We are not computer savvy and don't understand many of the technical or computer terms although we are very intelligent. The terms in this article don't match our phone or nothing else comes up when in settings
