Measure how thick the ice is and the thickness of the pipe to avoid damage in the pipe and excessive use of heat tape.

If you can raise the temperature of the metal above 0 degrees Celsius, then it should not take longer then 3-10 hours to thaw. If you can get it sufficiently above freezing then it will thaw even quicker

What do I do to thaw pipes in my basement?
