How do I know if my boyfriend is spying on me?
I have been with my boyfriend for over a year now and he does not trust me. I thought he would by now, but he doesn't. It causes a lot of arguments. I have begun to notice a pattern with him. Whenever I hear from a long lost friend, the next day my boyfriend calls me a lot. Or if a not so long friend and I have a chat. He just happens to ask about them. I am a very upfront type of person. And I feel like I am being lied to.
There is a good chance that your boyfriend is spying on you if you haven't told him that you talked to a long-lost friend but he still calls the day after you do. There are a few things you can do to find out for sure if your boyfriend is spying on you:
- Check your cell phone usage with your carrier's USSD codes. If you find that your phone is being used more than a normal month, your boyfriend may be spying on you through an application that he installed on your phone.
- Look through your phone's applications to see if there is an spying application installed on your phone. If you're on Android, open your applications list. If you're on an iPhone, simply swipe through your home screen and be sure to open every folder. If you find an application that you didn't install, and you open it and it refers to spying, it's likely that your boyfriend installed the application so he could spy on you. To delete the application from Android, go back to your applications list, tap and hold the icon, and move it to the trash. To delete the application from an iPhone, tap and hold the icon until it starts jiggling and then tap the X that appears in the upper left-hand corner of the icon.
- If your phone is running slowly, it could be because of a spying application that is taking up your phone's processing power. Spy applications send and receive data every time you send a text, make a call, or visit a webpage -- like previously stated, this can cause your phone plan usage to skyrocket, but it can also slow your phone down since it is performing two tasks at once instead of just one.
- If your phone is warm but you aren't doing any intensive gaming or video-watching, your boyfriend may have installed an application on your device to spy on you, as well. As previously stated, spy applications send a lot of data back and forth to the person who is spying on you; even if your phone doesn't slow down due to it, your phone is doing more work which would make it run warmer than usual.
These are some of the ways you can check your phone to see if your boyfriend is spying on it. However, the most effective way to find out if your boyfriend is indeed spying on your phone is to sit him down and talk to him. Let him know that you're worried that he's spying on you. Tell him how it makes you feel -- it's likely to make you uncomfortable, and your boyfriend needs to know that. If he's spying on you because he doesn't trust you, you will both need to explain to each other that your relationship is built upon trust and that there's nothing going on that either of you need to worry about. Set up boundaries with each other so neither of you feel uncomfortable in the relationship. Let him know that you would never do anything wrong to him; this will put his fears at ease and he'll stop spying on you so you can get on with your personal life.
