First of all, enter your BIOS. The key combination to enter BIOS can vary, depending on your motherboard or computer make. It can be "F2", "Delete", "F10", etc. Then, reset all of the BIOS settings to the default values (you will need to find it in your BIOS).

The other factor that can cause this problem is a dead CMOS battery that is located on your motherboard. Locate the CMOS battery on your computer, write down its type (Nicad, NiMH, or Li-ion), voltage and amperage, brand, and find a similar one in stores or online stores. If you cannot find the same brand, then just take in account the voltage and amperage and the type of the battery. Below is an example of a CMOS battery located on the motherboard.

My motherboard has 3 LED which lit up if something is wrong, the CPU light is on.

My Computer starts fine but freezes on the Windows is loading page. I have checked boot options and tried most of my motherboard's settings but nothing changed. I cannot get past automatic repair as it freezes while loading. Have tried to reinstall Windows but no luck. What triggered the CPU failure is unknown to me, but I was using Intel's CPU overclocker the day it happened. My PC is less than 6 months old and this is the first problem I have had with it. The CPU is I5-6600K by Intel. Thank you in advance.

Desktop CPU intermittently runs hot for no apparent reason?

Already tried removing it and dusting it out thoroughly and removing the thermal paste and reapplying thermal past. Did not resolve the issue. Sometimes it runs at about 15-20 degrees C, other times it runs at 40-50 degrees C. All I am doing is basic web browsing and playing music or movies. Could a power issue cause this? Or perhaps a failing motherboard?. I have tried: Tried removing the heat sink and dusting it out thoroughly and reapplying thermal paste, did not resolve the issue. I think it was caused by: Thinking maybe a failing motherboard or power supply but not sure.
