How do I add little pictures into a text?

Friends with Samsung phones are able to access symbols or little cute icon pictures that they insert into texts. I don't seem to have those. I've looked in settings and cannot seem to find how to turn these on :(

These little pictures that you can insert into text messages are also called "smileys" or "emoticons" and they are built into Samsung phones. To access and customize your messaging app, just start a new or continue with an existing conversation. When you have opened the conversation, hit the menu tab and choose the "Insert Smiley" option. You can then click and select your desired smiley from the roster of available stock emoticons to insert on your text message. There are more emoticons that you can download via third-party installation apps but these would require a separate keyboard or additional launchers and installations to make it work. This may also cause some incompatibility with your phone and may result to software crashes and problems.
