Since your chicken box marks are not atrophic -- which is to say, they do not appear as craters in your skin -- you will be able to use a number of medical or natural topical treatments to lighten and fade the scars left by your chickenpox. Read through the VisiHow article below to learn about natural, topical treatments that you can try on your skin to lighten, fade, and ultimately make your chickenpox scars unnoticeable to those you communicate with. In addition, you should also go to your dermatologist to talk to him about any medical topical treatments that you can use. He may also prescribe certain supplemental pills for you that may expedite the fading treatment, as well. Also make sure that any of the natural treatments you use do not cause any reactions in your skin. Apply each natural treatment to a small, square-inch-size portion of your skin and let it sit for an hour to see if there are any negative effects. If not, go ahead and apply it to the rest of your scars; if there is a negative reaction, however, you will want to go and try another one of the treatments listed. If they all give you negative reactions on your skin, talk to your dermatologist. They will be able to prescribe something that will work for you.

Home remedies do not work as effectively as stronger solutions if the chickenpox scars are older. This type of long-term scarring is called post-inflammatory scarring an is not easy to get rid of because it is caused by hyperpigmentation. You can prevent the spots from getting even darker by being sure to wear sunscreen in the sun. To get rid of them you should see your doctor and ask if the prescription of a steroid cream could help clear up your problem. Other treatments for hyperpigmentation that might work include bleaching creams and chemical peels. Unfortunately laser treatments are not recommended for this type of scarring, as the laser treatments can enhance hyperpigmentation.
