Hello, and thanks for your great question on maintaining your singing voice throughout the day. There are a number of things to consider in your case.

  1. 1
First, there is the consideration of your diet.
Are you taking good care of your voice throughout the day with the foods you eat? Not taking proper care of your voice can cause your vocal range to decrease over the course of a day.

  2. 2
Try it sometime, and see how your voice improves after a week of onions. Just make sure you aren't signing autographs without a breath mint!

  3. 3
Are you talking or shouting too much during the day?
You vocal cords can become just as tired from singing as they do from talking. This is especially true if you are talking in a noisy area, such as a school, or other public place, where you'll unconsciously be raising your voice to be heard.

After singing high notes my throat feels like there's something stuck inside and I'm not really sick or anything?

I don't know what I did but forcing to sing high notes I can't really reach might have contributed to my discomfort and it's like throbbing really bad.

You might want to see if you are pressing your voice or yelling. To see more how to identify these problems, please check the tutorials on how to prevent pressing the voice and on how to sing properly without yelling. The notes might be possibly out of your range, and instead of employing falsetto, you are forcing the vocal cords into the wrong mode.

You can also try defining your range by playing the piano and seeing if there are any notes you cannot take as you go up the C major scale. If there are, then you need to go back to the lower notes and work on expanding your vocal range with daily exercises until the gap disappears. Do not try to go high without eliminating the gaps. If you do, you might injure your vocal cords.

Can the consumption of pepper cause your voice to have problems?

My voice is not clear when I sing, it is like there is phlegm in my throat , is this as a result of eating pepper?

Bell peppers (without any seeds) are excellent hydrating snacks. However, if you eat black, red, or any other dried pepper, then it may hurt your voice. It is a good idea to drink more warm water to get rid of the mucus, or phlegm, feeling. Eat more fruits and remove any dairy products, raw eggs, and heavy meals.

Just wondering if Tylenol or Advil is better for a singer who has a headache. I think one is better than the other and I can't remember which it is?

Just wondering if Tylenol or Advil is better for a singer who has a headache. I think one is better than the other and I can't remember which it is?

There is no definite advice on that. It is quite popular that singers take Tylenol over Advil, but that means little if we take short terms in account. For long-term solutions, always consult your doctor!

Why am I clearing throat so much after a cold that was 2.5 weeks ago?

I had a bad cold 2.5 weeks ago and still cough a bit. I'm constantly clearing my throat if I try to sing high notes. Even if I'm not singing I do tend to clear my throat. During the last of the cold I would cough so hard that a searing pain would enter my throat. It faded within days. My voice is everything to me and I'm worried.

Was this helpful? Yes | No | I need help

The best way is to avoid singing in full voice while the vocal cords are inflexible or recovering from a cold. Take your time and recover fully. Take vitamin C and zinc every morning. Practicing talking in high and low vocals (not singing) during the day when you still have the effects of the cold. Coughing can last a long time, and 2.5 weeks of that is not unusual for a cold; however, it may require medical assessment to rule out bronchitis, pneumonia, allergy, or asthma if you wish to feel very safe. Take Mucinex (Guaifenesin) as prescribed by the doctor along with a lot of water.

Always wear a scarf if it is not hot in your area.

When you feel that you have recovered, start drinking herbal tea 4 hours prior to practicing. 2 hours before singing sessions, drink warm water. Warm-up by singing much longer for the first times.

What fruits or Medication that treats throat / voice problem?

My throat has crunchy kind of pain. Now flu has also mingled in.

Start breathing steam as soon as you feel the first signs of influenza. Drink warm water and fruit and vegetable juices. Grape juice is perfect. Carrot, beet and celery juice, apple juice, and grape juice are good remedies. Eat fruits such as grapes and melon. If you are not a vegan, you can try a bowl of chicken soup.

For medicine, when consulting the doctor or a pharmacist, tell him or her that you need decongestants (nasal sprays are fine too). Do not take antihistamines and never exceed the prescribed or recommended dosage.

I feel my voice is dry and I am unable to sing?

Since three weeks I am unable to sing. I had an episode of laryngitis and pharyngitis. Doctor told my larynges are fine but I am still unable to sing as my vocal chords are constantly dry no matter how much water I drink.

Your doctor (or another doctor) must be informed that the signs of both infections have not disappeared after a week. He may run extra tests for chronic illnesses or other illnesses or prescribe medications. As he does that, you will have to resort to a standard diet and regime of singers. Avoid any second-hand smoke, coffee, any alcohol, and revise your diet (check the article for the food to avoid completely). Something needs to be changed in the diet, as something might work for you, and something may not. Drink at least 12 oz. of warm water every hour. You can also add honey, chamomile, or licorice root. Do not forget to raise your head when sleeping, which will relax the speech apparatus. Some people even go as far as sleeping at a 45° angle.

Try something unusual like steam baths (essentially, Russian baths, if you have them in your area, which are saunas with humid air) or something more simple as breathing steam over a pan of water. The best period for breathing steam is ten minutes with a one-hour break. Wear a scarf around your neck all of the time and try to keep silence whenever possible.

Is warm apple cider good to drink before you sing?

Just trying to find the right remedy. I went to rehearsal Thursday thinking hot black tea with lemon and honey would help. But it is Saturday and my voice is not right. I probably will not be able to sing tomorrow, but I need to know what remedy will heal my voice.

Was this helpful? Yes | No | I need help

If you are interested specifically in the apple cider (nonalcoholic), then it can soothe your throat, thin the mucus feeling in your throat, and immunize you with vitamin C and its antibacterial properties. However, be sure that the acidic ingredients of apple cider do no pose even a slight threat to your throat by diluting the drink with warm water.

If you are looking for some other drink that beats apple cider, then warm licorice root tea should be the first one you get.

Our choir director told us to take two tablespoons of mustard for vocal cord hoarseness and stamina. Is that true. If so, how does mustard enhance vocal ability.etc. any good for me to use?

I used to be a really great singer. But through the years of singing and not taking care of my vocals I'm always having trouble with hoarseness, mucus and postnasal drip drainage, as well as not being able to sing or hit high range notes. Its a strain on my vocals and I suffer severely with these types of problems and more. No matter what I do, my voice will not restore its natural ability to sing. I'm embarrassed and don't feel confident any more when I get up before an audience to sing because I sound really horrible. I love to sing and now I'm so sorry I can't because of vocal abuse and not doing things to correct it which I didn't know to. Can you please tell me what can I do if there is a chance I can recover from all these problems that plague my voice? Also, are the throat sprays like Vocal Eze, Clear Voice, etc. any good for me to use.

How can I sing high notes comfortably? What to eat and drink to keep my voice fresh?

Hello, I am a lecturer by profession. Singing is what I'm passionate about. I have a heavy voice and find it difficult to sing high notes melodiously. The fear in me makes me repress my voice when singing high notes. As a result, it gets hoarse. I'm afraid that I may damage my vocal cords

Was this helpful? Yes | No | I need help

Fear is conducive to the vocal cords not relaxing. To overcome the fear, try not to shout or yell while singing or pressing the voice. Gradually, reach the higher range by practicing with an instrument. Each time you hit a higher note, practice it until it feels very natural. Be very patient, even if takes years, you have to work on expanding your range every time. Practice each note higher and higher until you feel comfortable, and, of course, you can always view our tutorial on how to expand your vocal range by clicking this link. Using your head voice will put less tension on your voice as lower air compression is required for higher notes.

For food, always eat fresh vegetables and fruits that have no acid (avoiding pomelos, oranges, tomatoes, lemons, and so on): watermelons, melons, grapes, etc. Drink a lot of warm water with non-caffeinated additions: honey, licorice, or even some juice. Eat whole grains. Don't eat for 2 to 3 hours before going to bed.

Is it supposed to be thick or light?

When you put in all the ingredients, is the drink supposed to be thick

Drink are generally well-diluted. There is only one tablespoon of honey per cup of warm water. Licorice root tea is thin. 1/4th of juice (grape, pineapple, apple) with 3/4th of warm water is fine. So, it should be light (or thin).

Am I breathing / support wrong?

Whenever I try to consciously support my breathing by using "belly breathing" or pushing out my stomach as I have been told, I feel that I am straining to sing more than if I don't. Am I doing something wrong? I know that when you sing you are not supposed to feel any irritation or discomfort in the throat. I also heard that people say that when you sing you are supposed to have a firm stomach or core for support. I just think that I am not supporting my voice the proper way. Thank you for any help or advise.. I have tried: I have tried to sing at a lower/ softer level to make sure that I don't cause any vocal cord irritation. This also helps me with controlling the amount of air I expel when I sing.. I think it was caused by: I think a lot of the problems I have with singing is mental. I have many things on my mind or going through my head when I sing which can make it more difficult or something of a chore. I want to mentally understand and know my voice and for it be fun.
