How can I fix my computer from booting up into black screen with cursor?

Whenever I start up my computer it goes through the normal boot up but it does say Exiting Intel boot agent, if that means anything, then the welcome loading screen comes on and all I get is a black screen with cursor. I can get into task manager and I've tried to boot up explorer but it freezes task manager and doesn't work. I have taken this computer to a guy who has a license and completely wipes it clean and just gives it the basics to run and everything I have tried doesn't work. I have tried: I have tried running task manager and running explorer.exe. I think it was caused by: Malware and or virus since it is an older laptop

My PC is running Windows 7 and before I shut it down last night it updated. Since I turned it on today it loads up as normal and then once it enters Windows it has a black screen with the mouse cursor and nothing else. I can press Ctrl, Alt, Delete and get the list but if I select task manager it returns to the black screen. I have been trying system restore for last 30 min and no restore points will work? what can I do. I have tried: System restore, getting into task manager and restarting. I think it was caused by: The Windows update last night

I achieved a black screen of death with a cursor in the upper right?

I was working on my laptop and looking something up using Google Chrome. The computer started making a loud clicking sound that sounded like the hard drive was skipping. Then the black screen of death.

This sounds a lot like hard drive failure. It can be a hardware (heads failure) or firmware (blocking access to read-write functions) problem. You can reboot your notebook and press a special key or key combination ("F2", "Delete", "F10", etc.; check your laptop manual) to enter BIOS and see what devices are recognized. If you do not see your HDD anymore, then it is definitely the problem. The second method is booting off a bootable Blue-Ray, DVD, CD, or USB device and checking whether you can see the hard disk drive or not. You can, for example, use your computer and create Windows 7 x64 bootable BD or DVD by going to this web site: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows7. Then, you will need to alter BIOS to let it boot off optical media first. Enter the recovery mode ("Repair your computer") during the installation and see if you can access the HDD.

Assuming that it is a hard drive failure (which sounds like it and can be inferred by following the instructions in the first paragraph), you will either need to bring the whole laptop to a service center or fix it on your own. If you wish to fix it by yourself, turn the laptop over and unscrew small lids on the back to locate the HDD or check our tutorial on how to locate internal parts of a laptop: "How to open a Lenovo laptop for the Flex series". This tutorial shows the part you need to replace in step 22. Please note that you may need to reach the same part through the back cover (under the notebook).

While you find out whether it is possible to fix the hard drive at a service center or on your own (how hard it is fix on your own depends on the model number and the failure type), you can buy a new 2"5 hard drive with the same or larger size and the same connection interface and put it in. You will need to reinstall the operating system to the new HDD (presumably, it was Windows). First, find out the version of the installed operating system, which is on the sticker attached to your notebook. Then, find a computer where you can download the operating system (64-bit, preferably) off the Microsoft web site (Windows 7, Windows 8.1, and Windows 10). Then, install the operating system. You may need to call Microsoft up and dictate or enter a code to activate the installation (you will see the necessity to call a number up and the number to dictate or type while you install the operating system).

If your older hard drive is fixed, you can copy the data back to your computer by using a 2"5-inch HDD enclosure that you can connect to the USB port of your laptop.
