You will need to compare the IMEI numbers on the device.

  1. 1
Locate the first one by pressing the home button
    .
Tap on the "Apps" icon. Tap on "Settings". In the "SYSTEM" section, tap on "About". Tap on "Phone identity". Alternatively, just dial *#06#.

  2. 2
    Turn the phone off
    .
Eject the SIM tray. The IMEI number is engraved on the tray.

If the IMEI numbers are different, then someone has changed the IMEI (not necessarily the seller). The original IMEI is, most likely, on the SIM tray.

Again, if IMEI codes in the phone and on the SIM tray mismatch, no one guarantees that the SIM card tray has not been tampered with either. To inject the proper IMEI code, it is not recommended not to do it on your own with Minimal ADB and Fastboot Tool, as it can be against the law and may lead to the wrong IMEI again and more trouble with your phone. Instead, bring the phone to an authorized HTC service center or contact HTC at http://www.htc.com/us/support/ who will determine the real IMEI number and inject it into the device.

I am going to purchase HTC desire 828, how can I differentiate between original and duplicate?

There is too much variation in the prices in different online stores. I doubt that the site in which the price is too low is a fake phone. Please clarify my doubt?
