Questions and Answers

I can not get into my private photos and videos?

I have a problem where as, whenever I try to enable the private mode and input my pattern to unlock, I get an error reading "could not enable private mode, please try again". My phone is running the Dalvik runtime, so that is not the problem.

Apps like Xposed Installer will trip KNOX. This prevents Private Mode from working. Some people have reported that when they see this error a simple reboot of the phone lets them login again. If you installed any apps recently they also could be the culprit. Keep in mind that Private Mode is extremely buggy. Especially after the Lollipop OS update. You may want to use a third party app like Vault for better success.

Hide and Show hidden item has been disappeared?

I hid some pictures yesterday and I went on Show hidden item and saw them. But now, I cannot see Hide and Show Hidden item any more?

If you used Private Mode to hide your photos, you will need to make sure you are back in Private mode, so that you can see them. However, if you used the older method of hiding files and folders, by putting a period '.' at the front of the file name, then you will need to go to 'Settings', and then check the box to 'Show Hidden Files', and press the 'Back' key so that you can view hidden files. This way you can also search for them using a file explorer.

Moving items from memory card from private mode would they still be visible if you take memory card out and put it in another device?

Does memory card hide files in privatemode

They are found under .hide when you mark them to private. Once you do that even if you save to the SD card, it will still be in the .hide of internal memory. If you wish to save these files, then connect your phone to the PC and transfer them.

Problem facing that the pictures are not showing in private mode after updating the mobile?

A) what is the destination file of private mode folder? I backed up my phone prior to doing a Factory Reset and I don't know how to retrieve the pictures that were in the private mode folder. B) If the photos have not been saved via Kies or a regular backup, is there any way to recover them?

Was this helpful? Yes | No | I need help

The destination is .hide. After a factory reset, whatever was not transferred via Kies or a backup will be gone. There is no way to retrieve them unless you had a seperate cloud type of storage such as Google Photos.

Firstly, check your microSD card for any missing files. You can use any file manager for that like X-plore. Factory resetting will not delete anything from your microSD card. Also, if you previously backed up your contents on your computer, use the program that you have resorted to to restore your contents. The most popular program for S5 models that you can launch can be Kies or Smart Switch. Both can restore your manual back up.

If the data was extremely important, then you should switch off your smartphone immediately and ship it to SalvageData. SalvageData, or any other data recovery service, will do its best to extract information from your formatted smartphone. You can submit your case right on the Web site to get your quotation.

I think my husband put a software on my phone to track me?

I think my husband put a software or an app on my phone to track my location and/or who I am calling and/or texting which websites I visit, etc. How can I find out if he has?

This is not an easy task, as modern application tend to mask themselves quite well. There are some oblique signs though:

  • poor voice call quality with some strange beeps and noise on the background;
  • the battery has been draining considerably faster than before;
  • random reboots;
  • check your Internet data: you can use your carrier web site for that or visit the carrier office; examine all of the addressed IPs or addresses. You can use https://www.easywhois.com/ for IP addresses (enter the IP and select "IP address lookup" from the drop-down menu). Visit every suspicious web site that you probably have not visited;
  • hotter or slower phone than usual;
  • install and run anti-spyware programs, for example, https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.antispycell.free.

Accessing hidden files on Galaxy S5 from computer?

My child dropped my Galaxy S5 and the screen has smashed, I have files hidden on the phone and wish to access them from my PC to copy them before sending phone back for a new one. I have already copied all other visible files and folders all remains is the hidden ones, I can't access phone apart from running my fingerprint and hearing the noise, display is extinct!!! so is it possible for me to gain access to these files from my computer?

Was this helpful? Yes | No | I need help

Search for .hide. Hopefully, this was how these images were saved so that you can transfer them to your PC. You can also try Show Hidden Files within Kies and then transfer them if the files open.

View old files saved privately on new phone?

I had to send my S5 in for repair, how can I view the files on my SD card that I had moved to the private mode on my old S5, I can see 5GB of files but can't view any of them

Basically, you can't. Otherwise, it would defeat the purpose of Private Mode because anyone could use your SD card. It saves to internal memory and even when you move it to the SD card, it reverts or saves as encrypted. Maybe running a crack program would open the files but that could damage the rest of the files on your SD card.

WHEN I TRY TO HIDE MY CALLER ID THEN I AM NOT ALLOWED TO MAKE ANY CALLS. HOW DO I CANCEL THIS?

I WOULD LIKE TO MAKE CALLS IF I HIDE MY CALLER ID. IT SAYS CONDITIONAL FORWARDING ON

Samsung Support has created a tutorial on how to hide your caller i.d.. It will only work for making calls and not for SMS. Additionally, some countries and carriers do not allow you to hide your caller i.d. If this is your case, then you can consider using a third party app to make calls and mask your identity. However, if the person you are contacting has an app like True Caller enabled then your identity will show up for them even if you try to mask the call. Your number also might show on their actual hard copy cellphone bill if they request to itemize.

Hi there I've got an S4, how do I unhide contents

Whether you are in Gallery or My Files, you can tap the More in the settings of those apps. There will be a section for hidden items. Click that and you can show all or individually the items you wish to unhide. This is for the Kitkat OS. If you have been upgraded to Lollipop OS, you can connect your phone to Kies and search for items with .hide attached.

How to find the "private" folder when transferring files over to a computer if it is not activated?

I dropped my phone and now the entire screen is black, the phone still functions as I can unlock it, open apps, receive calls but I cannot see anything on the screen. So I am obviously getting a new one but I wanted to transfer all my files over to my computer so I can have them saved. I have several photos and pictures hidden through the private function and as the screen is black I cannot activate the private function, even when I try my best going off my memory I don't believe I am unlocking private mode. So is there a way to find the photos in the private folder on my computer when I connect them or not?

Was this helpful? Yes | No | I need help

You can run a search for .hide within Kies but without Private Mode disabled, you may just be transferring files that you will never be able to open unless you crack the encryption.

I would like to know why "Contents Hidden" is displayed on my lock screen?

How do I move my Picassa album to my laptop?

When I connect my Samsung Galaxy S5 to my laptop it never comes up with my Picassa album & try as I cannot find it, there is a video on there that I am desperate to view but cannot send it to the PC, even asked the geek squad & there was nothing they could do, I cannot view it on my phone, cannot email it as it says its an unsupported file. I would really appreciate some help on this matter. Many thanks

Google saves any Picassa albums in which you can access them online at Album Archive. You can go into your Gallery and manually Sync. If you can't find the video here then check Google Drive as that is the default storage method for Picassa on Android.

How to free up space on Samsung Galaxy 5?

I have a Samsung Galaxy 5. It is saying the memory is almost full. My contacts are taking up an enormous amount of space. When my daughter set up my phone, she imported all of my Yahoo email contacts into my phone contacts. Now I can't delete them. I don't need them in my contacts. Ideas?

Was this helpful? Yes | No | I need help

You can login on the PC to Google Contacts. These are your phone contacts. You can edit within that website and then sync your phone for the changes. The other option is to go to People in your Apps list and deselect Yahoo. Reboot the phone and see if they are gone from your contacts. If you have the Yahoo app then go to Applications Manager and Clear Cache and Data within that app. Then delete it and re install but this time choose not to sync Yahoo email contacts with your phone contacts.
