'Mexican food is great and we all know that, but tasting real authentic food is an other story if you know exactly where to go in town:'
Tortas ahogadas are a signature dish from Guadalajara, you can not find them anywhere else in the Country, they are a delicious drowned sandwich made with a roll called "birote" stuffed with pork carnitas and drowned in a seasoned tomato sauce. The best place for tortas ahogadas it is called Tortas Toño, they have different locations, but the one I recommend is located at: Tierra de Fuego 3160-2 Col. Providencia, Guadalajara, Jalisco. C.P. 44630 México, Phone: 3642-8739
The next place you must visit for a variety of Mexican dishes is "El Parian" in Tlaquepaque city, El Parian it is a place where you can enjoy good food, music and drinks and after you can walk around the local art crafter's shops. At "el Parian de Tlaquepaque" you can eat at "El Abajeño", where el mariachi will sing at your table if you pay for some songs, and you an enjoy a "cazuela" authentic citrus drink made with tequila and grapefruit soda. El Abajeño" is located at: Address: Juarez 231, Centro, 45500 Tlaquepaque, Jalisco, Mexico Phone:+52 33 3659 8965
Then to switch to a very sofisticated cuisine, I highly recommend to visit Anita Li restaurant, located in Ave. Inglaterra 3100, Guadalajara, Mexico Phone: 36474757, at Anita Li's you can enjoy a fresh thin sliced jicama tortilla filled with sauteed shrimp and fresh pico de gallo, with their signature drink Piña Li, made with pinapple and vodka, very refreshing.
Tips Tricks & Warnings
Of course there are many other places you can go and find excellent food, however these are the ones I fully recommend while visiting the city. Bon Apetit!
