Get the gimp toolbar back after accidentally removing it

Edited by Alma, Dougie-1, Dougie, abhimanyu sssssssssssssssssssssss and 6 others

Many people when first using Gimp (GNU Image Manipulation Program), accidentally click the X and closed and/or removed the editing TOOLBOX or LAYERS toolbar. "How do I get my toolbar back?" is probably one of the most common Gimp questions. Of course, it should be obvious, but like many things on Gimp, it is not. This can be very frustrating, to say the least. Fortunately, this problem is easily fixed.

  3. 3
Layers - Channels - Paths - Undo - Brush Toolbar
    :
Many people confuse this with the "Layers - Channels - Paths - Undo - Brush" window which has layers combined with these other tools all in one. It's a very handy window and once you close it, it is not readily apparent how to get it back. The easiest way is to go to the "Windows - Recently Closed" menu option. There you will see "Layers - Channels - Paths - Undo - Brush". Choose this option to bring your trusted toolbar back.

I accidentally pressed x on layers in Gimp. Will this method bring back my layers toolbar permanently after restarting my computer?

Yes. Until you press x again or otherwise remove the layers toolbox, it will be persistent and will be there each time your start Gimp, even after a reboot.

Yes, by pressing Ctrl-L you can bring back the Layers Toolbar on Gimp permanently, and it will stay even after restarting your computer.

Hello, I need some help. Why in my filters when I click on map and map object, it is gray and I can't use it?

The map object is gray and I can't use it.

You would have to do a restart. Sometimes, that happens when the system is having a hard time reading, or something gets stuck. Do several restarts if it does not work after one attempt.

I did accidentally click the X on the toolbar, but tools still don't work?

Even tho the toolbar is gone (and Ctrl B doesn't fix it) the tools in the toolbox don't work anyway. I tried to download a new version, but that doesn't work either!

Opening and updating the toolbox and layer box to suit V2.8?

I installed V2.8 as a beginner and the FULL (tool/layer) boxes opened each side of the main work window. I closed the programme accidently and then reopened it. The original side tool box and layer box were no longer there. I went to Facebook to seek an explanation. It said to press Ctrl +B, which then opened different looking boxes (i.e. narrower with less options/icons). The original version was much more helpful and easier to manipulate. I'd appreciate any help please. thank you. ................... As a beginner I can't say because I've not had the experience to know there is a difference
