Get Started with your Apple TV

Hi, you're watching VisiHow, and we've just connected our new Apple TV to the actual TV. What we're going to do now is go ahead and get things set up. We are starting out with our remote control and the Apple TV control.
We can press down to cycle through the menus.
We have the options of French, Dutch, Chinese, Netherlands, Italian and more in the list of languages. Our other option is to choose the default language, which is English.
One you've made your selection, you press the center button on your remote control.
As you can see, there's a black wheel on the remote control, with a button in the center. Let me get a little light very quickly and I'll show you that. See here? So, this is our remote control. It's a very simple device.
Let's turn that light off so you can see the TV more clearly.
Now what we're going to do is select the network.
Let's scroll down until we find our network.
Now I need to enter in the password.
Hopefully, this is the password.
Pressing the Play button will change your keyboards.
You can scroll over to the right as you see, and just hit Submit.
Wait a moment for it to connect.
Now it's activating. It should automatically set the date and time, although it may take a moment depending on the situation.
Now you have the choice to assist Apple in improving their products and their ability to support users by having your Apple TV automatically send information about how it's working and how you use it.
I don't mind doing this.
If you don't want to do it, press down on your remote.
And select No Thanks by pressing the silver button inside of the black ring on your remote.
In my case, I'm going to press up and I'll select OK.
Now that I've selected OK, the Apple TV should be initializing.
This may take a minute as it's the first time I'm setting it up.
So here, I have a selection of top movies.
As you can see, which I'll try and demonstrate, on the bottom where my hand is pointing is movies. Then we have TV Shows, Music, iTunes Radio, Computers, and a whole selection of things that we'll go through one by one. Just pay attention to the one that has the white box around it because that's the active one, and that's the one I'll be talking about as I explain the Apple TV to you.
With movies, you can go up and select the movie you'd like to see.
In order to see the movie, you simply press the center button.
You can go farther over and continue cycling through movies, or you can go back to the beginning.
Additionally, you can go down to Netflix, and when you start moving around for the first time, you'll be given the option to Arrange Main Menu Items.
If you simply press and hold Select, which again is the silver button inside of the round one, it will start moving around just like the icons on an iPhone do. And then you can move it around by using the directional button, and pressing Play or Pause for more options with it.
I'm going to press OK here because I don't need to move things.
If I go over to TV Shows, I have a selection of TV shows that are available in my area.
Here we are. There's Game of Thrones, my wife's favorite thing on the planet.
Next, I can select Music and different music things will pop up, allowing me to select from a wide range of music depending on what my interests are.
As it's new, there's nothing pre-programmed. But the more I use it, the more it will begin offering up things that it believes I'd like, based on my preferences.
This is a streaming radio which you can also use.
Computers allow me to share my home system or home computer.
Here are the settings for the device, if I press OK on Settings.
I can now navigate through the settings.
When I want to go back, I simply press the Menu button, and it takes me back to the main screen.
If I would like to watch something in particular, I can simply scroll down until I find it.
In my case, I'm going to choose YouTube because my children like to watch YouTube quite a bit.
Now I have the option to watch general music, to see what's popular, sports, gaming, education, and so on.
I can watch Taylor Swift or Meghan Trainer. There's a whole selection of things that I can do with this.
I can also search if I'd like to search.
In my case, I'm going to search for pocoyo and make sure it's there because my children love pocoyo. So a quick search on pocoyo should bring up some results. And there we go!
Now I just move over to the right until I get over here.
I can scroll down and select the first result.
As you can see, I've got the Apple TV all set up.
It's initial functions are working, and we'll have a series of videos later on the more advance functions and the things you can do with it. Thank you for choosing VisiHow. We hope you've enjoyed watching pocoyo, and have a great day!
