Steps

    To begin, we should have Illustrator opened and a document ready

    Then, we double-click the "Fill" option at the left-hand side of the window in the toolbar

    We select a color by clicking it by using "Color Picker"

    We will select the color. We can start creating a shape. Different color and shapes can be picked as we get more advanced with Adobe Illustrator.

    We start by clicking "Rectangle Tool"

    We move the pointer over to the canvas. The pointer will turn into a cross. This indicates the corner of the shape that we will begin to draw.

    We click and drag the pointer

    The outline will appear. We can move it around to manipulate how the shape will look. Some guides will appear, as the green line will indicate it. This happens owing to the smart guides being enabled. We can move the shape quite a lot. We can decide whether it is going to be a rectangle or a square.

    We release the mouse button

    The shape applied to the canvas will appear. This will be a rectangle.

    Next, we click the canvas again and hold the "Shift" key on the keyboard

    No matter how much we move the mouse, a perfect square will be shown on the canvas. The shape will flip around if there is no space on the canvas.

    If we let go of "Shift" before we let go of the mouse button, the shape will go back to a rectangle

    To get a perfect square, we ensure that we hold "Shift" when we let go of the mouse button. This applies to all of the shapes. We also have the option to use the space bar.

    We press and hold "Shift" and "Alt" keys on the keyboard

    The a perfect square shape will go from the central point instead of the corner point, as it was before. Sometimes, pressing "Shift", "Alt", and mouse buttons can get tricky as we use a lot of fingers in one go. It takes some practice to get the hang of it.

    We can also click on the canvas and press the space bar

    This will reposition the shape. The shape will move very slightly when we press space.
