Hello and welcome to VisiHow. In this video, we are going to show you how to get directions using the Google Maps application on an HTC One M8.
To begin, turn the phone on by pressing the Power button located on the top of the phone.
Once the phone has been activated, we will see the Lock screen.
To unlock the phone, swipe the screen upwards.
Once the phone has been unlocked, we will see the Home screen, and at the bottom of the screen, we will see several icons.
This is the area we need to focus on because we need to open the Applications folder.
To do that, we need the icon in the middle at the bottom of the screen.
It has a grid of white dots, and this is the icon for the Applications folder.
Press down on this icon, and it will open up that folder.
Now, we need to find the Google Maps application.
In this example, it is the third icon on the top row.
The icon is a map with a red pin inside. Underneath the map icon, it says the word "Maps".
Press down on "Maps", and it will open up the Google Maps application.
What we want to do in this video is demonstrate how to get directions using this application. There are a number of ways to do this. The first way uses our current location.
In the middle of the map on the screen there is a small blue circle.
This indicates our current location. We can find directions from our location to another location. All we need to do is press down on the screen and drop a pin on the map.
For example, we'll scroll up a little bit on the map.
Once we have found a location we want to go to, press down on the screen and hold down until a red pin appears.
It will also display the actual address at the bottom of the screen in a white bar.
Now, we can get directions to this location from our current location, and we can do that by pressing down on the blue circle icon with a white car inside of it.
This icon can be found in the bottom right corner of the screen.
When we press down on that icon, it will open up some different route options.
We can choose the option we want by pressing down on it.
Now, we have found directions to this location from our current location, and the route is shown in blue on the map.
We can go back by pressing the curved arrow at the bottom left-hand corner of the screen.
Press the back arrow once more.
Back at the map, press the curved back arrow a third time.
This will remove the pin on the map.
The other way to find directions is to press down on the blue circle in the bottom right-hand corner of the screen.
Inside that circle, there is a diamond with an arrow inside.
When we press down on that blue circle, what we can do is search for directions from our current to another location.
We may not actually know where this location is on the map, but we have the address.
Therefore, we'll press down where it says, "Choose destination" in the blue area at the top.
Then we can type in a location.
In this demonstration, we are going to use "Freedom Square".
Now, it is going to show us where "Freedom Square" is located on the map, and it is going to provide directions for us as well.
This is very different from the first option we mentioned because we were able to choose the location on the map. We knew where it was on the map. If we don't know where the location is on the map, but we have the address, then we can type it in. Google Maps will then show us where the location is exactly. There is also a third way of getting directions.
Go back again by pressing the curved arrow at the bottom left corner.
Press the back arrow again to return to the main map.
The third option is to find directions for two separate locations, none of which are your current location.
To do that, press down on the blue circle with the diamond in it again.
Now, we have to delete where it says, "Your location" at the top.
Press down on that section.
Then type in a new location.
In this example, we'll type in "Didube".
Next, tap on the area where it says, "Choose destination".
Now, let's type in "Freedom Square".
We can now see that it has found directions using two completely separate locations, not including our current location.
Now, with all of the options, once we have entered the map with our directions, there will be two white arrows inside the blue circle at the bottom right-hand corner of the screen.
If we press down on this icon, it will begin step-by-step directions to our desired destination.
The first step in our directions says, "Head southeast on Didube Settlement St toward Tornike Eristavi St".
On the map, there is an arrow at the start of the journey.
The map will display the first part of the directions.
At the bottom of the screen are two arrows, and we can use them to scroll through the different steps.
Press down on the arrow pointing to the right, and the arrow on the route is going to move further along the path.
The arrow will keep moving forward as the directions continue. Therefore, we will have verbal directions at the top of the screen, and it will show us the physical journey at the bottom on the map.
We can scroll through all the steps of the journey by pressing the right arrow icon at the bottom right corner.
Eventually, it will take us all the way to our destination.
This concludes our tutorial on how to get directions in the Google Maps application on an HTC One M8.
