Data cannot be recovered. Would you like to continue? Now data can be recovered depending on the programs and applications that you have installed on your computer, however, that is a bit of a tedious process and not something you'll easily be able to do from your phone. There are also phone applications that can help you do that, but again, that's not a process you want to do from your phone. However, in this case, it is a new memory card and I always recommend formatting a new memory card in your phone. So Let's go ahead and format that.

Questions and Answers

Samsung S5 will not see the SD card?

When I place the card in my Laptop it shows I loaded many apps to it. However one file on the first page which includes a file called "dot Android_Secure" and a second file called "Android" it also shows a third file "lost.dir" and the file is empty. Could this be the problem? I have carefully read and followed your instructions on formatting using only the S5. When I see all the files on the SD card in my Laptop and none in the S5 I am confused, I do not want to lose the files. Please can you help? As a side note, my wife and I have come off the Blackberry system and the Android system is all new to us. We have 2 S5's and 2 Tablets from Verizon each with the same problem. Thank you for any help you may be able to provide.

Those files are Android System Files, please do not erase or alter in any way, you will cause a serious damage and the system might fail to load and boot. Those folders and files are like hidden system files to your PC or Laptop. That "lost.dir" is also an Android system related folder.

Galaxy S5 not recognizing 64GB memory?

In the Settings area, it says Mount SD card

The Samsung Galaxy S3 and above phones will be able to take a 64GB microSD card formatted to exFAT. You will need to take the card out and use a card reader to format it on your PC. If running Windows XP, you can add the exFAT format by installing the Windows update here:

Does installing an SD card in a Galaxy 5S increase the system capacity by roughly the size of the card?

Have a 16GB Galaxy 5S. I bought at 32 GB SD card. Before installing the card, I downloaded 9GB of music. When I tried to install an App, I received a message that there was not enough room. So I installed the 32GB card. But received the same error. Settings says system capacity is 16 GB. It does list 29GB storage capacity of the card, but still says the capacity is only 16 GB. I thought it would be 3=48GB

I can't get the Galaxy S5 to recognize the microSD card?

I purchased an S5 and 32GB microSD card. I can't get the phone to recognize the card. It says "mount SD card."

Google and Samsung have updated Android and have started to take away the ability to use SD cards. Any difficulty you're having with using an SD card in your phone is likely the result of your phone's software, not of any defects in your card.

Was this helpful? Yes | No | I need help

Just to make sure your card is functional, though, put it in your computer and see if it recognizes it. If it does, then unfortunately your phone has been updated. If it doesn't, try another card in your phone and see if it works.

Format SD card is not an option, it goes to mount SD card, when I select mount SD card it says that the card is blank then goes back to mount SD card.

The SD card had been installed and working properly then I noticed that I had pictures missing and decided to check the SD card and found that it was not being recognized.

What to do about a microSD card that can't be read by anything?

Yesterday my S5 started acting wonky. Kept shutting on and off and black screens ensued. Googled around and figured it might be the SD card. Backed it up via Dropbox. However just got back to it today and it's not reading in anything; not my computer via a microSD reader or in my S5 or S4...not sure what to do from here.....

Was this helpful? Yes | No | I need help

If your SD card was only acting up in one device, there would be a good chance that the device was to blame. If it is acting up in every device, then chances are the card itself is no longer good. Try getting a friend to try it out for you, and attempt to format the card if ever it does start working. Otherwise, it may be time to buy a new one.

Samsung 64GB microSD - corrupting files and won't format?

Hi, I have a Samsung Galaxy S5 and it has started corrupting photo files and now won't let me reformat the microSD card. The card is only a month old, started having similar problems with previous Sandisk card after about 12months, so bought a genuine Samsung 64GB to see if it gets any better.. . Reading the forums, there was a suggestion about formatting the SD with a PC and putting back into phone, but PC "failed to finish formatting".

S5 with a 32GB card - Good morning...I'm reading the forums and I'm still a little unsure. I have the S5 with a 32GB SD card installed but I'm not even sure how to tell if there is anything stored on this card from my phone without removing the card and viewing on my laptop. I'm wondering why the SD card wouldn't automatically auto fill with content? I see the instructions on how to format and I did that when I first installed the SD card. The system says that I'm full but: Settings > SD card says that I have 29.05 GB available. p.s...Why would this even affect my incoming emails? I thought that this is stored on Yahoo's servers? Thanks for your help!

S5 doesn't recognize data on SD card?

Using my laptop (because it's so much easier to transfer files there than by USB cable to my phone) I put a lot of music files and audio book files into folders I created on my 128GB microSD card. When I put the SD card into the phone, it shows the capacity = 129g and available 129g. When I use a file manager on my phone to view the files, I see the MUSIC and the AUDIO BOOKS folder I had created on the SD card, but no files are displayed. BUT, when I take the SD card back out of the phone (using UNMOUNT), those folders are empty. BTW, I had formatted the SD card on my laptop utilizing exFat. I've gotta go to work with my boss for a while, so if you respond promptly, I unfortunately may not be here to take advantage of your volunteer service!

Format ssd within my Galaxy S5 did not work?

It started spontaneous with: Pictures of the camera were gray (so no image at all). I came, after some research, to the conclusion that the SSD was corrupt, so I want to format it. It is a Sandisk Ultra 64GB. I tried to format it in my PC, but it refuses to format. Formatting within my S5 also does not work. It goes through the process (I can see it going to 100%), but afterwards I see all files still on the card. What can be the problem/solution.

I have not used this site before. I have not seen something like it. The microSD card says I must format it when I put it in the old laptop. The Galaxy Note4 does not seem to recognize it anymore (though it showed up once recently and I was surprised!). I want to transfer the photos to an external hard drive to keep them safe.
