SIM lock code, forgotten 4 digit code?

I have a Sony Xperia m2 and I want to set up a SIM lock to protect against use if I lose it. However I have forgotten the original 4 digit code and recently locked myself out and had to contact my service provider for a PUK code, phone back on now but still wants to set up SIM lock. I have tried: Tried 3 times with 4 digit numbers I usually use, including 0000 I am afraid of getting locked out again. I think it was caused by: My lack of technological wizardry
