While typing a reply to an SMS, I have lost my Qwerty Keyboard?

The bottom third of my screen is like graph paper. I have tried going back into settings, and it is set on Samsung keyboard, but I still have no letters. I can only write using finger, but I am not in S Pen mode

Was this helpful? Yes | No | I need help

Even if you have not turned your S Pen Mode off, your phone will still go to handwriting mode under the conditions below:

  • . Your phone has settings that allow it to go into certain modes based on the current page you are on. So if you are writing a message and the S Pen is removed, your phone, based on pre-set behaviors, will switch to handwriting mode. To get back to keyboard mode, simply put the S-Pen back into its holder.
  • Even if your S Pen is inserted into the holder, make sure that it is properly inserted. Check for impurities and other objects that may block your S Pen from properly fitting into the Pen holder, or your device from detecting it's there. If you notice any dust, small objects, or other impurities, remove it from the S Pen cover.
  • You have enabled Pen detection on Keyboard settings. This is a very common issue. If you do not want to switch into handwriting mode every time your S Pen is removed from the holder. Make sure that you have disabled Pen detection on the keyboard settings. To do that:
    • Go to your Home screen by tapping on the Home button once.
    • From your Note3 Home screen button, tap on the Menu key, located on the lower-left part of your phone, to show options.
    • From the list of options, choose Settings and go to Controls.
    • From Controls, tap on Language and Input and tap on the gear icon (Settings) beside Samsung Keyboard.
    • Under Samsung Keyboard, tap on Pen detection and disable pen detection when your S-Pen is removed.
    • You are done disabling Pen detection on your keyboard settings.
