Questions and Answers

Email reply, I need to reply to the reception invitation of an Ambassador?

I need to reply to the reception invitation of an Ambassador which came from the embassy. So when I reply, should I approach Dear Sir/Madam or directly to Ambassador

You have to see how the letter that you have received is signed. If the person revealed his or her name, start with "Dear Ambassador [surname]:" (the US or other countries) or "Dear Ambassador [name]," (the UK or other countries). Within the letter, address the ambassador as "The Honorable [full name]" (the US or other countries) or "Your Excellency [full name]" (other countries). Otherwise, if you do not know the name, you can use "Your Excellency:" or "Dear Mr./Madam Ambassador:" (the US or other countries) or "Your Excellency," or "Dear Mr./Madam Ambassador," (the UK or other countries).
