Hello and welcome to VisiHow. In this video, we are going to show you how to download and set up the Skype application on a Microsoft Lumia 535.
To begin, turn the phone on by pressing the power button located on the right-hand side of the phone.
Once the phone is activated, we'll see the lock screen.
Swipe the lock screen up, and this will take us to the home screen. When purchasing a Microsoft Lumia 535, the Skype application should already be installed on the phone; however, if this is not the case, Skype will need to be downloaded.
To download Skype, we need to go to the Microsoft Store.
The tile has a blue background. It will probably have some text on it related to the different applications. The images and text can vary depending on what applications were recently viewed. The Store logo is a common image that will appear on the tile. It is a 3D bag with a window inside it.
Once the Store tile has been located, press down on it.
If it's not on the home screen, swipe left to find it in the Apps menu. This will take us into the Store.
Next, we need to search for the Skype application by pressing on the icon at the bottom of the screen in the middle.
It is a white magnifying glass in a white circle. This will open up the "Store Search" function.
Type in "Skype" and press return or press down on the word if it appears in the search list.
It will then search for the Skype application.
The Skype program is at the top of the list, and it is already installed on this phone.
However, if it was not installed, we would just press down on the Skype icon on the left side or the name.
This will open the application installation process.
At the bottom left-hand corner of the screen will be an "install" button that will need to be pressed in order to install this application.
On the video demonstration, that button currently says "view", but it will say "install" if the Skype application has not been installed. This will begin the installation of the app. Once Skype has been downloaded and installed, the word on the button will change to "view".
Press down on the word "view", and it will open the Apps menu to where the Skype application is located.
Underneath the application in tiny green letters, it will say "New". This indicates that the Skype application has been installed.
Press down on Skype, and this will take us into the application and allow us to set it up.
We are already logged in, so we can press on the "Sign in" button to sign into our account.
To set up a new account, you will need to add a password, Microsoft account information, and email address.
Then it will ask if we want to "Link to an existing Skype account".
What this means is if you have a Skype account you've been using on another device, then you can link this phone to that account, so you don't have to create a totally new account and delete the old one.
We don't have an existing account; therefore, we will press "no".
Press the "Sign in" button again.
Now, it says, "Allow message notifications?
Show new message notifications when Skype is closed." Choose "yes" or "no" depending on preference.
For this demonstration, we will press "yes" because it is very useful.
We want to know if someone is trying to contact us, even if the application is turned off.
Now, the Skype application has loaded.
It is working, which is evident by the green dot in the top right-hand corner of the screen. This green dot is found to the side of a light blue circle, and inside that is the outline of the head and shoulders of a person. The green dot means the at the application is activated, and we are online.
This concludes our tutorial on how to download and set up the Skype application when using a Microsoft Lumia 535.
