Questions and Answers

Does hair gel make your hairline recede?

No, hair gel or hairspray does not cause your hairline to recede. Although brands will have their own proprietary formulas, the core method by which they all work is the same. The gel has polymers that must bind to the hair, or more specifically to the keratin proteins that make up hair, and also be viscous enough such that they overpower the natural shape of the follicle. Hair loss, whether it is receding from the front, or a bald spot at the back is caused by what is going on at the root or sub-dermal level - genetics, chemicals, stress and so on - not by what is on the surface of the hair follicle itself.
