Cut Down On Chemical Additives In Food

The public is LED to believe that there is no harm in chemical additives in food since the amount that is eaten each day is very small. If a large amount of a chemical is poisonous, than wouldn't a small amount each day be harmful too? Some people feel that a small amount of salt is good for people, but more amounts can kill. They then believe that small amounts of chemicals are alright. This may be true provided that other chemicals can be carried off like extra amounts of salt and are not increasing in the body like DDT. Some people argue that there is no proof that these chemicals are dangerous. Many people a long time said that smoking was harmful. But from day to day, they saw no visible changes in health, so the promoters said they weren't harming anyone. Now after decades of experience, we definitely know that smoking is bad for our health. It has caused heart problems and cancer. But it took many years to prove that. So couldn't the use of additives in our food have bad effects over long term use?
Those who might argue for a certain viewpoint may tell you to look at the results of certain experiments that have been done. But is such evidence always certain? For example, there were rats that were well fed for over six months, but were given nothing to drink but cola beverages. It was found out that their teeth dissolved down the gums. It is said that the acid in these drinks can melt iron and limestone. That seems on the surface to be a very impressive experiment and the conclusion may be drawn from it that some harm would come to people if they would drink these beverages, over a long period of time, or on occasion. But someone may point to the fact that acids in lemon juice and vinegar are harmful too over a period.
Who knows better? If our Creator purposed that certain chemicals be in our food, would not he have put them there? If you have a nice automobile that takes high test gasoline, what would happen if you began to put dirt particles and cheap fuel into the gas tank? In time it would begin to breakdown, not lasting long.
It has been concluded by many that it is no longer a question of whether these chemical additives are harmful or not. Dr. Ryan stated that every time a natural substance is removed from a food or an additive is added to a food, the balance in nature is disrupted. Panelist Martin Shils, said that the growing problem of putting more chemicals into foods is part of the pollution problem. He said there should be a good reason before new chemicals gets into our food supply. The comparing of these chemicals to pollutants brings up another aspect of this matter. The average person may not eat enough of any one chemical additive each day to be harmed, but he is exposed to more than just one chemical in his food every day. He is subject to many from other sources too.
More people are becoming concerned with the polluted environment where they live. We have foreign chemicals in our drinking water. Swimming pools have added chemicals that can be irritating to people's eyes and noses. Our land has been saturated with pesticides and fertilizers. What about the air we breathe? Newsweek reported that the waste in the U.S. air cripples the cattle in Florida, discolors the paint on houses and vehicles in Lincoln Maine, and kills pine trees 60 miles away from Los Angeles. Some Americans are paying with their lives that have respiratory problems such as asthma, bronchitis, and lung cancer. They are multiplying at alarming rates. So when you put it all together, you will find that it is not just one chemical in small amounts any longer. The attack of these unnatural elements, the chemicals in our food, the air that we breathe, the foreign substances in the water we drink, may well be responsible for the illnesses affecting many people today.
What can you do if you prefer not to take in all these chemicals? It would be impossible to avoid them altogether, but there are steps you can take to help yourself:

- 3It would be a benefit to bake your own. You can find healthy recipes on the internet or recipe books you can buy.Commercial bread has little real food value.
- 4If possible, you can grow your own.When you buy fruits and vegetables, make sure you wash them thoroughly before eating them.
- 5Milk, and freshly squeezed fruit juices are better for you.Drink natural healthy beverages instead of soda.
- 6Buy fresh unprocessed meat.
- 7Since such pesticides as DDT tend to collect in the fat of animals, you can cut down your intake of it by trimming the excess.
- 8Fresh fish, vegetables, fruits. If there are produce in your vicinity that did not take the usual fertilizer or pesticide route when it was grown, so much the better. Additives that are used to make food taste better should be used at a minimum. Monosodium glutamate is a no no. Minimize use of salt and soy sauce. You can use olive oil only as a topper when your food is already on your plate but do not use it as an alternative for cooking oil when you cook your food because there are studies indicating that olive oil can cause cancer if used as oil for cooking.If possible, buy anything that is fresh and not canned or process or refrigerated.
