You're watching VisiHow. This tutorial will show you how to create a pattern in Adobe Illustrator CS6 in Windows 7.
In this video, Illustrator and a document are already opened.
When the document is ready, click "Object" in the menu across the top of the window.
Move the cursor to "Pattern" in the drop-down menu.
Then, move to the expanded menu on the right and click "Make".
Click "OK" in the dialogue box.
The box appears to inform you that a new pattern has been added.
Then, you can begin to create your pattern within the blue outlined square that appears on your canvas.
On the vertical toolbar to the left side of the window, select the tool you would like to use to create your pattern.
We will use the "Paintbrush Tool" in this tutorial. If you want, you can also choose an existing image.
Then, create a shape to use as a pattern by clicking and dragging your mouse.
In this video, the paintbrush has a banner design because it was selected in "Brush Libraries". There is a VisiHow video on how to do that.
When you have finished, your drawing will be applied as a pattern in a particular format.
You can then begin to edit different settings.
You can edit "Name" by clicking the box next to it.
Type the name of your document
You can also change the style of the pattern by clicking the "Tile Type" drop-down menu.
Let's click "Brick by row".
With the brick style, you can also choose "Brick offset".
You can then change the "Width" and "Height" values by simply clicking and typing a new value.
You can check or uncheck "Size Tile to Art" and "Move Tile with Art".
These are the two options just below "Width" and "Height". They can be checked, depending on for what you are using your pattern.
Then, you can decide if you want your pattern to be overlapped or not by clicking the "Overlap" options.
Depending on what pattern you're using, you may or may not see many changes to your design with this setting.
Finally, you can also select the copy pattern.
You can do that by simply clicking the "Copies" drop-down menu.
You can also check "Dim Copies".
Once you have finished, you can either click "Save a Copy" or "Done" just below your horizontal toolbar.
Otherwise, you can click "Cancel" to go back to your screen as it was before.
Then click "OK" to create your pattern.
This concludes our tutorial that shows you how to create a pattern in Adobe Illustrator CS6 in Windows 7. If you have any questions or comments regarding this video or the program used, add them to the comment section below. Thank you for choosing VisiHow!
