Create A Virtual WI-Fi hotspot on your Laptop

Edited by Mohsin, Charmed, Melsan, Maria and 18 others

Having an internet connection but, without any WiFi facility, is quite boring and feels incomplete. Nowadays, almost every ISP provides an internet connection with WiFi, but the range is the problem. You can purchase access points to increase the length of signals, but the cost is a lot. But, there are many other ways to make WiFi hotspots for (almost) free. Some of them require payment to unlock all of the features but, many are free. In this article, I will show you on how to create a virtual WiFi hotspot, and increase the signal length of the current WiFi connection

Requirements

  • A Laptop or, a desktop with an active WiFi connection.
  • An active internet connection.
  • A strong and open IP.

Below are few applications to install, those will provide the Virtual WiFi Hotspot:

Connectify

Screenshot 48.jpg

http://www.connectify.me Connectify is a simple WiFi hotspot creating software, which allows you to create a WiFi hotspot, and share the internet with other PCs, even if there is no device to create a WiFi hotspot.

Connectify has two versions. One is free, which allows you to create a WiFi hotspot only if there is already a device able to connect to another WiFi (for example if you have a Laptop, which obviously has the ability to accept WiFi signals, you can use the same acceptor to send the signals to other devices. Using this lite version your Laptop will act as a WiFi sender.).

Now, with the pro-version, you don't need to do anything. It will choose the best settings for you, and for this, you don't need to have a WiFi acceptor. It can use your LAN wire to send the signals. Basically, you can use a desktop or Laptop connected to LAN as a WiFi hotspot, something that is not very common.

Maryfi

http://www.maryfi.com Maryfi, is just like Connectify but, it will only create a WiFi hotspot if you have such a device capable of connecting to a WiFi network. It won't work without any WiFi receiver. You can't use your LAN to spread signals of WiFi.

Other WiFi enabled devices including laptops, smartphones, music players, and gaming systems can see and join your WiFi hotspot, just like any other WiFi access point, and are kept safe and secure by password-protected WPA2 Encryption.

Virtual Router

http://virtualrouter.codeplex.com Just like above, Virtual Router can be used to create a WiFi hotspot on Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows Vista, and any 2008 R2 Computer, but with the help of Wireless Hosted Network Technology (your Wireless Network Card). The virtual router software is totally free and without any annoying ads. I prefer Connectify (if you are able to purchase the Pro version). For a free and legal app, do try Virtual Router.

Got a Laptop with an Ethernet card? Want to make the most of your Internet connection at home, work, or school and connect your devices to it. 5. 5
Your Ad hoc network should be installed and available for connecting your devices
    .
The network you created will then be added to the quick select list of wireless networks. When disconnected from the network, it stops running. When connected to the network, it runs again. This allows convenient switching back and forth between connections in a matter of few clicks.

The last step is to enable connection sharing using your regular network card
    .
Again proceed to the Control Panel and select Network and Sharing Center and choose "Change adapter settings." Look for the network you created from the list. Make sure that it is enabled on the adapter where there is an Internet connection. So if it is connected to a local area connection, make sure that it is enabled there.
