# Count the Total Number of Characters in a Cell in Excel

Edited by Djinu, VisiHow, Eng

You're watching VisiHow. In this video, we're going to show how to calculate the length of a cell on a spreadsheet in Microsoft Excel. In column "B", we have a list of possible domain names. I want to know how many characters are there in each domain name with the premise being that shorter domain names are better.

## Steps

1. 1
Click the "D2" cell.
2. 2
Type "=len(B2)".
Alternatively, you can click the "B2" cell instead of typing it.
3. 3
Now, press "Enter".
4. 4
You can fill the cells down by double-clicking the "D2" cell.

That was how to get the length of a cell in Microsoft Excel. If you have any questions or comments, please leave them in the space below. Thanks for watching VisiHow!
