I don't have a backup, I have put the drive in another computer as a slave, any advise on what I could do within the slave file to repair Windows?

Unfortunately, it sounds as though your hard drive is failing. Your best bet at the moment would be to go and copy any files you can access off of your hard drive and save them somewhere, and then replace the hard drive.

In future, it's a good idea to maintain a backup, that way you can more easily recover information and deal with unexpected drive failures.

Black, white or blue screen failures can be a result of a great many things, but your Black Screen isn't even letting you boot into Windows past the loading screen. In this case it is very likely a problem with the hard drive. The easiest solution would to be reformat the hard drive. There are a few steps to reformatting a hard drive:

  1. 1
First, locate your install CD/DVD for Windows 7, or whatever you are using.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No | I need help

  2. 2
When your computer is first starting up a couple of prompts will pop up on the bottom of the screen on one of the first screens you see, which usually prompt you to press F2, F9 or F10, or Del to enter the BIOS setup.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No | I need help

  3. 3
Go into the setup screen for whichever one it prompts you on this screen and find something called Boot Drive Directory, and click on that.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No | I need help

  4. 4
This screen will show you what order your computer loads everything up when it is starting, so you want to find the 1st Priority option and change it to Boot From CD.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No | I need help

  5. 5
Do Save and Exit, and your computer should restart and start booting again.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No | I need help

  6. 6
This time when your computer is booting up it will load your Windows installation CD/DVD first instead of your hard drive.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No | I need help

  7. 7
From the Windows Setup, once it starts, do Custom Installation.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No | I need help

  8. 8
This will show you all of your hard drives on your computer and you want to find your main one, usually C Drive, and press the option that says Format or Reformat.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No | I need help

  9. 9
This will prompt you to install Windows onto this drive after it is wiped clean.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No | I need help

Hopefully that will fix your problem and if it doesn't then either the hard drive is broken, the RAM, or something more serious, which would require repairs from an actual shop or from the manufacturer.

How to set up my computer again from black screen, (was wiped)?

Hello, two days ago I tried to upgrade my computer to Windows 10. It finally got to 99 percent last night and has been frozen on the update since 7. At 7 it installed the new updates that windows 7 had and finished, restarted. I tried to log back in and it gave me the black screen. Safe mode did work but I did not know what to do on it so I went to system recovery on last setting. It gave me error 0x8000tff and so I tried one further back and failed. Then I found I could use safe mode to go in but now it is asking for the other username and password which I don't know. Is it possible to move forward on the recovery to get my password setting to try safe mode again. And if so it has a weird different setup, I can not tell you more until startup repair is done.

KSOD (Black screen of death) solution please?

Hi there! I'm experiencing a problem on on of my machines that is running Windows 7 pro, where after typing my password for my user profile, the screen goes black and I only have a mouse cursor, the PC does not progress from there.. . I am able to press Ctrl + Alt + Del to get the menu but selecting the task manager has no results.. . I can also log in to safe mode. I did that and was able to run a virus scan, and removed a virus that was found.. . There is no disc in the drive, I enabled low resolution mode, checked for any recent updates that was installed, ran system restore, created new user (welcome screen takes forever to log in) - none of these worked.. . Any advise as what I must try and do will be greatly appreciated. . . My next step is to try run sfc /scannow to see if this will yield any results.. I do not want to resort to having to factory reset the machine as I would like to see if I resolve this issue first.. . Thank you in advance!

Black Screen of Death? With Icons and cursor visible in the background with a flashlight?

Whenever I turn on my laptop (Acer Aspire with Windows 7), I see the "Boot" screen and then suddenly, with a small "pop!" it appears to go into sleep mode or hibernation but, if I look at the monitor with a flashlight at angle. I can see my Desktop icons and the cursor moving among them. Still, it is too dark to read and all those press "Remove battery & press F2 - F12 ' with/before/after on/off button" quick fixes don't work. Does this sound like a virus? I have the free version of "Avast!" coupled with Widows firewall - that is all of my protection. How can I get rid of this or fix this thing forever, please? Thanks for reading this!

Why does my screen turn off and my computer locks every now and then?

Hello, Lately, when I run certain programs (mostly fullscreen ones) my computer's display shuts off, the audio bugs out and my computer basically stops doing anything until I restart it by holding the power button. The thing that's bugging me is this does not happen with every program nor with all programs of the same nature, and it happened so far only on two programs I used without problems before (both games, yet I can run much more resource intensive games and programs with no problem for hours on end.) Sometimes said programs won't even start, but most of the time they start, play for a bit and just when I think I'm okay, monitor says there's no input, audio starts bugging out and computer just stops. Is there a solution? Thank you for reading.
