The Home screen is where you have access to Samsung Galaxy S4's features. If Samsung Galaxy S4 was a house, the Home screen would be the door. Normally, home screens display the icons, widgets, application shortcuts, menus and more. Each phone is different, especially when the user has customized their user's preferences.

"If you are a native Android user, any Home screen from any Android OS may be very familiar to you, and it may only take you a few minutes to make sense of the functions of each icon and menu. You will also be familiar with the various actions you can perform, should there be a specific feature or command you want to use."

"However, the ease of using any Android's Home screen may not be as easy for those still familiarizing themselves with the Android operating system, or more specifically, with the Home screen. Thankfully, Samsung is responsive enough to offer a new Home screen mode for those who are still learning this new technology. We will be discussing below how to set the Home screen to your preference."

    • Turn off your Galaxy S4.

    • Once on, the Android icon will pop up. Then, let go of all the buttons.

    • Press the Power button.
    • Select "Yes " Delete all data."

  • Using Air Gestures.

This can be handy to navigate your Galaxy S4 without touching the screen. You can enable it in Settings, by selecting Air View. You can also enable it by using the drop-down menu in the Notification Panel, and then use the toggle. One benefit of Air View, is you can preview items before actually opening them, which is a time-saver. With Air View enabled, you can actually just hold your finger about a half-inch above a selection to open it. It does take a little practice, but it's fun once you get the hang of navigating this way. If you are having difficulty changing Home screens using Air View, keep in mind that you can have nothing between your navigating finger and the S4 screen. Also, you need to keep your finger about one centimeter above the screen.

Home screen mode does not show Easy mode?

If you have followed the instructions correctly, and have gone to the Home screen mode, but still cannot find the Easy Mode option, then your phone may be a version that has the Starter Mode instead. Basically, both screen modes (Starter mode and Easy mode), are the same. Some versions have Starter mode on them, while other Galaxy S4 versions have Easy mode on them. These are just two slightly different names, but are the same in all functions and features.

Was this helpful? Yes | No | I need help

To Enable Easy mode, please do the following:

  • From the Home screen, touch the Menu button.
  • Select Settings.
  • Select My Device tab.
  • Select Home Screen Mode.
  • Then select Starter Mode. Starter mode is also the Easy mode.
  • Tap "Apply", then "OK".
  • That's it. Easy mode/Starter mode is now enabled.

Home screen mode how to stop it from going to standard or easy mode?

Every time I hit the home screen button on the bottom of the phone it goes back to standard mode but I have been running go launcher ex since I have had the phone. How do I get the home button to go to this, rather than standard mode?

Was this helpful? Yes | No | I need help

Easy and Standard mode will not work for Go Launcher, as the application is in itself a Home launcher application. This means that the mentioned application will show the interface based on its configuration. What you can do now is to Open, Close and Manage Applications on Samsung Galaxy S4

Was this helpful? Yes | No | I need help

Also, you can set your default launcher to Samsung's default launcher. What is happening with your phone now is that it uses Go Launcher and the default launcher application every time you press the Home key. This means that no matter how you change the settings for your screen mode, if Go Launcher is your default launcher application, then nothing would seem to change. To reset the default launcher go to Home > Menu key > Settings > More > Application Manager > Menu key > Clear app preferences.

Was this helpful? Yes | No | I need help

First you are going to need to uninstall home launcher, second you need to reinstall the launcher. The reason it doesn't appear anymore, is because you've chosen to only use the home screen mode when trying to go to your home screen. From here you will be able to go back and make the selection again to only use the launcher to get to your home screen.

How can I set my home screen on Samsung Galaxy?

I have a Samsung Galaxy, not sure if S2, S3, S4. My home screen was accidentally changed. I can't get the right screen to be home again.

Your Home screen can go up to seven Home screens. There is no default Home screen position, so you need to ensure the same Home screen appear when you press on the Home key. Rearrange the way your Home screens pile by pressing the Home key. If nothing works, you can delete other Home screen pages. This will ensure that your phone will treat the remaining Home screen to be the default Home screen. You can then add the deleted Home screen icons and widgets.

Changing home screen - please help?

I keep trying to change my home screen on my Galaxy S4, but it doesn't work.

Not sure what you mean by changing your home screen. If you mean placing a different widget or shortcut on your home screen, you can easily do this by going through the apps/widgets selection screen.

Was this helpful? Yes | No | I need help

On your current home screen, long press on a shortcut or widget and drag to the top that says remove. You can now add whatever you like as a replacement.

Hit the Apps icon on the bottom right of your screen and it will take you to the apps and widgets list. Long press on a shortcut or widget and drag it out to place on your home screen. You can do this to change the look of your home screen and all the other screens.

The S4 has a default weather on the home screen, but now its blank. How can I put it back?

Home Screen mode does not have the weather window anymore.

You have to check your home screen settings and see whether you have accidentally excluded that app from there. If you did, you have to include it so you will see it. You have the option of setting the apps you want to see on your home screen. These types of settings are fully customizable.

I accidentally lost the date and time widget at the top of the home screen.

I accidentally moved the entire top part of the home screen. Now I don't have the date, time and the weather where it used to be. However, when I look at the manual for the phone, it is no longer displayed the way it was originally. I'd like it to look like it did when I got it and I don't want to use the other mode.
