LCD screen blank use another phone's LCD to retrieve documents?

Phone turns on but the screen is blank//black. thinking of buying a second-hand phone and plugging in the LCD into the broken LCD port, will this work. I only need my photos and files. I don't want to use phone/calls, as I will upgrade to a new one. Oh just cost cutting, as I don't want to use the S3 again as the everyday phone, bought a 2nd handphone for instead of the $ 100 on eBay new LCD digitizer, unplug the LCD and plug it into my broken phone. use the 2nd handphone for retrieving photos.
