Are DCIM folders necessary? Can those be deleted?

I have a Sony Xperia E cellphone with an Internal Storage of 2GB. I have uninstalled most of the apps but still the free memory is nearly 15 to 20MB internal. Most of the apps in my phone came along with the cellphone which request for an update and which I am not able to do. So please let me know how can I free my internal storage and which of the files are unwanted and can be Deleted?
