    Then we should just select the layer that we want to work with.
    Once we've done that, make sure we convert it to a smart object, which is basically what flattens this video clip to one frame, rather than lots of individual frames. We need to do that when we're working with filters on video.     With the window that appears, we have a preview screen where we can zoom out and zoom in using the "-" and "+" beneath the image.

    We also can change the "Mode".
    We have "Normal", "Darken Only", "Lighten Only" and "Anisotropic". Depending on we're working with, that can make quite a difference.

    Once we've changed these, we can then press "OK" to apply it to the canvas.
