*Please note*

New Android versions such as Marshmallow and Lollipop no longer have an option for "Silent Mode". You can achieve the same thing by muting all the volume sliders inside your volume settings, or, via the quick settings panel. In addition, accessing the volume controls are no longer done via the power button. They can be accessed by either pressing volume up or down, tapping the drop down menu or via settings.

Questions and Answers on S4 Volume Controls

Samsung S4 Active, problem with the sound. I have a very very annoying problem with my S4 active, sometimes it switches itself to silent, and what this means is I can hear the person I am calling and they can't hear me?

What I usually do is take the back cover off, take the battery out and tap the thing on my leg, then put it back together. Please tell me what I am doing to cause this......please, I am about to turn the phone into a Frisbee

You most likely have a problem with the physical connection of your microphone. This would explain why you can still hear them and they do not always not hear you. The action of tapping the phone on your leg may possibly cause a disconnected wire to come into proper alignment, resulting in the connection reestablishing itself.

The best thing that you can do now is to bring your phone to a service center. Do not try to open it and fix the problem yourself. Your phone may still covered by the warranty, so ready the things that you will need for your claim and have Samsung fix it. It is only a minor repair, so you can wait for the repair to finish before taking it back home.

How to fix the ring sound on my Galaxy 4 Active?

The ring sound on my Galaxy 4 Active does not work, I have tried several ways but still the same.

You can do the following to fix the issue:

  • Go to "Settings".
  • Tap "Sounds".
  • Go to "Sound function".
  • Follow the onscreen instructions.
  • Choose "Adapt sound".
  • The ringer should be now fixed

OR

  • Go to "Settings".
  • Tap "My device".
  • Tap "Blocking mode".
  • Change settings

If this still happens, reset your phone by doing the following:

  • On your dial pad, dial: *2767*3855#

NOTE: This will delete all apps and data

When I open the Notification panel, I do not see any Sound button? What does it look like? Is there any other way of switching sound or vibration off aside from the Notification panel?

The sound button is the third icon on your notification panel. It is represented by a speaker icon. When you see a speaker icon with two sound signals, it means that the phone has its sound enabled. A speaker icon with a diagonal line on it and vibration icons on its side means that your phone is set to vibrate mode. A grey speaker with the word "Mute" below it indicates that the phone is switched to silent mode. Simply tap on the speaker icon to switch between these three modes.

You can also change your sound options by pressing the Volume down button until your phone vibrates. When you do this, your phone will switch to vibrate mode. If you want to switch it to sound mode, simply press the Volume up button. You can also go to settings to change your sound preference. To do that, go to Home > Apps > Settings > My Device > Sound. From there you can change volume, vibration, music, sound effects, and other sound options.

Note3 test sounds even on 'mute' setting?

On my Note3 I recently had 2 situations where I really didn't want my phone to make any sound so I pressed the volume button on the left side to 'silent' but soon afterwards a text message notification came in on full volume! Does this side button not mute all sound when it shows it to be silent? Many thanks.

Volume level default is null. When in meetings, I swipe down and press the Sound button until it is on Mute. That's fine. However, I now realize that when returning to the same place to turn sound on, it comes on at the lowest level, which is basically the same as off. I'd like the phone to come back to the previous settings, as I have missed many calls and texts using this feature, since I only now understand what has been going on. Suggestions?
