Hello and welcome to VisiHow. In this video, we are going to show you how to add an Outlook.com email account to an HTC One M8.
To begin, turn the phone on by pressing the Power button located on the top of the phone
Once the phone has been activated, we will see the Lock screen
To unlock the phone, swipe the screen upwards
Once the phone has been unlocked, we will see the Home screen, and at the bottom of the screen, we will see several icons
We now need to find the Settings menu, and to do that, we need to swipe the Notification panel down.
To open the Notification panel, start at the top of the screen, and swipe downwards
Now, we can see that the Notification panel has appeared
We are looking for the icon at the top right-hand corner of the screen
It is a white cog icon. This is our Settings icon.
Press down on this icon, and it will open up the "Settings" menu
It says the word "Settings" in the top left-hand corner of the screen.
Let's scroll down to the "PERSONAL" section, indicated by the word "PERSONAL" in the gray bar
The option we want in this section is "Accounts & sync"
Next to these words, there is an icon of a gray circle surrounding by two arrows making another circle.
Press down on this option, and it will open up our "Accounts & sync" menu
We now want to add an Outlook.com email account from Microsoft.
To do that, we need to press the white plus sign at the top of the screen
It is the second icon from the right in the top black area.
Now, we see a list of all the different accounts that can be added to our HTC One M8
Scroll down a little, and we can see the option for "Outlook.com"
Next to this there is the Outlook icon.
Let's press down on this section, and it's going to ask us to enter our account details
We're going to do that now. We'll first enter our email address and then our password. Then we are going to press "NEXT".
Now that we've entered our email address and password, we'll press down on the word "NEXT"
It will begin "CHECKING ACCOUNT SETTINGS..." Then it's going to sync our Outlook.com email account with our HTC One M8
A screen appears with some "Outlook.com" settings" options
We can "SELECT THE DATA TO SYNCHRONIZE", and for this, we have "Mail", "Contacts", "Calendar", and "Tasks". Currently, we can see that all the boxes are blue and contain checks. This means all of these options are selected.
Press down on a box to remove the check and remove that from the data to be synced
This will deactivate that option.
Reactivate the option by pressing down on the box again to add the check
Other options we have are "PEAK HOUR UPDATE SCHEDULE"
These options include "Smart Sync", "Push mail", "Every 15 minutes", or "Manually". This is how we will receive mail and updates. Do we want to check our email "Manually", "Every 15 minutes", or "Get mail as soon as it arrives during peak hours"?
We're happy with "Smart Sync" because it says, "Adjust sync frequency based on usage (saves battery)"
It also allows our HTC One M8 to feel and learn what we're doing, what our behavior is, and then make the best choice for us. We can choose any one of the options by pressing down on the appropriate circle on the right side of the screen. We can only choose one.
Once satisfied, press down on the word "NEXT" in the bottom right-hand corner of the screen
Then we have the option to change the "ACCOUNT NAME" using the keyboard if desired
If we want to make this our "default mail account", we can do this by pressing on the box on the right side of the screen
This will turn the box blue and add a check inside it.
When done, press "FINISH SETUP"
Then it will process our information, and we have successfully synced our Outlook.com email account with our HTC One M8.
This concludes our tutorial on how to add an Outlook.com email account to an HTC One M8
