Hello and welcome to VisiHow. In this series of Facebook videos I'm going to tell you about some of the most complicated features and settings that you might possibly be interested in. In this video I am going to show you how to add a nickname or birth name to your Facebook profile.
To start with we need to unlock the phone
This example uses a fingerprint lock to be able to access the Home screen.
Here is the Home screen with all the applications
We are looking for a Facebook icon which looks like a blue square with a white letter 'f' inside it
Let's give it a tap.
This takes us straight to our timeline, but we need to access our Settings
In order to do that let's take our attention to the bottom bar and choose the "More" on the right-hand side
Give it a tap.
Now, let's tap on "Update Info." It's the second line right under your profile link
It will take a couple of seconds to load.
If we look to the very bottom we will see a "View Profile" option
Let's tap on it.
Next, scroll all the way down until we see an "OTHER NAMES" section
That's where we can add a nickname and a birth name. In that case it will appear next to our name. People will be able to do a search on us through Facebook using the nickname. Let's tap it.
At the moment, we can see there are no nicknames
The very first line gives us an option to choose a nickname. Let's give it a tap.
After we tap on it a scrolling pop-up gives options for "Maiden Name", "Alternate Spelling", "Married Name", "Father's Name", "Birth Name", and "Former Name," in case you've changed it
There's also "Name with Title," and "Other". We could be a Queen Mary or what ever we choose it to be.
This example will choose a Nickname
In that case we scroll all the way to the top and pick the first option.
When we are done picking what type of name we are going to add, tap on "Done."
Next, we have to tap the Name type, the name itself
Give it a tap on the second line.
To save tap on "Done" to get rid of the keyboard
And the very last option will allow us to show that nickname at the top of a profile or leave it hidden
Other names are always public and how people find us on Facebook. Let's checkmark it. Name the name will be shown on the top of the profile.
Press "Save" to save and "Cancel" to cancel
Let's tap on "Save."
It will be a few seconds to load
Here it is pretty fast.
Let's go to the profile by tapping on the arrow in the top left-hand corner
Tap the white arrow again
Tap the arrow again to be taken to the main menu
To access the profile, tap on the profile link which is the first line of the menu
Now we can see our main name and a nickname that we have added, written with small letters off to the side
You just watched me adding a nickname or a birth name to the Facebook profile on the iPhone 6
